One week from today, I’ll be walking the streets of NYC with a group of 9 other people on our Young Adult Mission Trip. Our theme for the 5 day journey is “This is Church.” As we serve others in Jesus’ name, we pray to learn more about what it means to “BE”the church, not just “go to” church… that we learn to truly SEE the people around us, SERVE them and along side each other, and SHARE with those in need around us, most importantly sharing the good news of Jesus.
As I was working on some things for the trip this morning, I discovered some beautiful words in a song by Ruth Harms Calkin. I’ve never heard it before and can’t find it anywhere on the internet (if someone has a link or knows it, please let know!), but it just seems to fit perfectly with our theme:
Do you know, O Christian, You’re a sermon in shoes?
Jesus counts upon you to spread the Gospel News;
So walk it, and talk it,
Live it, and give it,
Teach it, and preach it
Know it, and show it,
A sermon in shoes.
I invite you to join me in praying for our mission team (Kristina, Megan, Anna, Bekah, Alexa, Jon, Nate, Jeremiah, Ben, and John) that we would truly be a sermon in shoes next week and everyday of our lives. Pray that we would know and understand the good news of Jesus Christ and live it out as we walk the streets of NYC. While you are praying for us, know that we are praying these same things for you as you go about your everyday life.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and his mighty power… with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. … And pray… that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.” (Ephesians 6:10, 15,18-19)
